The cloth is a nice heavy-weight cotton that should last a long time. After a few washings, the color has only faded a little bit - I think the color is well set in the cloth. Pay special attention to the size chart. I wear a 5 bottom (the pants are incredibly comfortable with an extra triangle of clothing allowing better leg movement - you absolutely do not need to add elastic). The top and bottom will both shrink down on the first washing, however because particularly the top comes with so much cloth (I wear a 4 top, again, pay attention to the sizing chart) allowing for good movement, the slight shrinkage only made it fit better. If you're doing a style of martial arts that does a lot of gi grabbing or moving around, you may want to reinforce the front cloth and string clasps with extra thread, but besides that, the uniform has held up wonderfully.
