This is my standard daito for Nito ryu. Absolutely love the thick grip. Great shinai!

4 of 5 Finally, one of the more "practical" grip for nito July 15, 2015
Reviewer: John Seo from Demarest, NJ United States
We all know that it is rather hard to find a 37 shinai that doesn't have a baby grip, since 37 shinai are for younger practitioners.  That being said, this is one of the thickest grip for shinai I have ever held in my hand.  Although it has an oval shaped grip, the oval shape is not that extreme like most oval shinai.  Thick grip is good for nito, because you can grip the shinai more comfortably and since nito requires you to strike with one hand, thicker grip allows you to strike without locking up your hand too much.  However, I do believe that the grip is way too thick.  I am a big fan of large grip, however this is too much.  I am giving it 4 stars, because it is very hard to find a nito shinai that has good weight balance and a proper grip.  I would give it 5 stars, if the oval shape is a bit more pronounced and the grip is a bit thinner.

5 of 5 I love this shinai! September 12, 2012
Reviewer: Jason from St Albert, AB Canada
Rather than quit practicing due to a tendon injury, I have been playing katate-gyaku-jodan (stated that way because saying half-nito doesn't make me chuckle the same way).

This shinai has fantastic balance for being used one-handed, and the size and shape of the grip is extremely comfortable and a great blessing through long practices.

I  hope they make a 39 inch version for when I'm healed!

5 of 5 Finally, a superb nito-ryu daito August 17, 2010
Reviewer: Sidharta Rezende from Sao Paulo, SP Brazil
I have been doing nito-ryu since 2003 and have been testing a lot of different shinai, never finding one that make a significant difference. Untill now.

I wrote a more detailed revie at my blog (in portuguese only)

4 of 5 Excellent weapon, but fragile August 4, 2010
Reviewer: Brian from Vienna, VA United States
I have been playing nitou for 3 years now and tried many shinais, looking for a good daito.  This shinai has superb weight and balance, and has been very good to me in shiai.  However, as another reviewer stated, it is a fragile piece and does not stand up to the abuse a nito daito will always receive.  Also, the fit of the slats is kind of odd, and the slats do need to be tapped from time to time, as they stick together. The fact that they cost $50 a piece makes them quite expensive to replace.  If ebogu could iron out these flaws, it would be a 5-star item.

5 of 5 nice buy August 15, 2009
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Quakertown, PA United States
Compared to the 37 practice shinai and my other 37 shinais, the shinai is lighter and has the nice balance in the middle where the normal 37 has the weight on the top. I found that the leather isn't really top quality, as the leather was flaking like crazy. The bigger oval grip helps greatly with the control of the shinai.
Overall, if you are nitoryu user, this shinai is highly recommended. I guarantee you this shinai will satisfy your needs in control, quality, and just overall shinai. Thinking of buying it? Buy it!
